Description
This is a joint presentation, hosted by The Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce, Bank Five Nine, and The Waukesha County Business Alliance. Join us for an important conversation on the future of I-94 in western Waukesha County, key to supporting growth for Oconomowoc area businesses as Pabst Farms and Olympia Fields continue to expand.
Topics covered will include:
1. I-94 Expansion is Critical for Economic Growth and Workforce Mobility
- The I-94 corridor between Milwaukee and Madison supports 40% of Wisconsin’s economic output.
- Major developments and residential/mixed-use projects in Jefferson and Waukesha counties are increasing infrastructure demands.
- The current two-lane bottleneck in western Waukesha County leads to congestion, crashes, and slower commutes, impacting workforce access and economic development.
2. Broad and Bipartisan Support for Advancing a Study
- Over 20 businesses, economic groups, unions, and stakeholders, along with Waukesha County legislators, have formally requested WisDOT to prioritize a feasibility study for expanding I-94.
- A bipartisan group of 12 legislators sent a letter backing the study.
- There’s a united front from the public and private sectors advocating for action.
3. Immediate Action Needed to Avoid Long-Term Consequences
- The Waukesha County Business Alliance and supporters stress the urgency of the situation, urging WisDOT to include the study in the next Transportation Projects Commission meeting.
- Without action, infrastructure will lag behind regional growth, threatening safety, efficiency, and the ability to attract future investment.
- Expanding I-94 is framed not just as a transportation project, but a strategic move for long-term statewide prosperity.
This event is free and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
