Accounting Associate

We are seeking an Accounting Associate to join our team. MSI General is one of the first fully integrated DESIGNBUILD construction firms in Wisconsin, with over 65 years of continuous profitability delivering excellence in design, estimating, and construction management.
The Accounting Associate works closely with our team focused on either an Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable role. Administration of timely and accurate financial transactions with our clients and subcontractor partners according to authorized agreements per our project contracts and our subcontractor agreements. All responsibilities and tasks should be performed with clarity and precision following MSI General’s policies and procedures.
This is a full-time, in-office (not remote) position.
Key Responsibilities - Accounts Payable
- Receive and process subcontractor and vendor invoices and prepare and process corresponding payments per subcontractor agreements and upon Management approval
- Track subcontractor and vendor compliance through Master Subcontractor Agreements, required insurance coverages, lien waivers, etc.
- Assist with cost analysis to uncover any unique job issues, cost overruns and/or unrecoverables
- Investigate and resolve outstanding creditor items
- Maintain General Ledger entries and cash management
Key Responsibilities - Accounts Receivable
- Prepare client project invoices according to authorized contracts (DBIA, AIA, Purchase Orders, etc.)
- Work with title companies, lenders, and clients to collect funds in accordance with
contract documents - Assist with cost analysis to uncover any unique project issues and/or cost over runs
- Track compliance of owner’s insurance requirements, MSI General’s insurance requirements, and client’s confirmation of financing
- Maintain General Ledger entries and cash management
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in accounting or related degree
- 2-5 years of construction accounting experience
- Licensed Notary in the State of Wisconsin
Additional Requirements
- General understanding of accounting principles, procedures and practices
- Experience using Outlook, Word, Excel, and Vista (Trimble Viewpoint), or equivalent programs
- Ability to manage time efficiently, multitask and stay organized
- Ability to comprehend and retain complicated information
- Ability to adapt easily to changes and role & responsibilities
- Valid driver’s license
Additional Responsibilities
- Crosstrain to learn and conduct (as backup) all company accounting procedures
- Participate in quarterly performance conversations with the Controller
- Offer administrative support to associates
