The Universal Banker generates leads, establishes and maintains client accounts and relationships, sells and cross-sells all bank products and services, to provide complete quality client service.  The Universal Banker provides exceptional customer service and appropriately refers clients to cross-sell the appropriate products and services that are profitable to the Bank.  In addition, the Universal Banker provides and processes various financial transactions and performs front-line job functions. The UB duties also include opening new accounts, issuing negotiable instruments, referring clients to Ixonia Wealth Management, Consumer Lending, Mortgage and Commercial, and providing accurate and timely client services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Sells bank deposit products, and bank services that best fit customer needs.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of our products and services as well as an understanding of products and services offered by our competitors.
    • Opens new deposit accounts, business accounts, trusts, estate accounts, IRAs, HSAs and other banking services.
    • Consistently completes the Ixonia Bank Customer Onboarding process.
    • Explains product features and benefits and answers customer questions. Resolves any problems or concerns.
    • Facilitates or performs required transactions to process and close the sale of deposit products.
    • Basic knowledge of types of loans, such as vehicle loans, CD loans and HELOCs to refer customers to the appropriate Mortgage Loan Officer and Commercial Loan Officer, when applicable.
    • Originate and close consumer loans.  Will carry out lending responsibilities in accordance with IB Loan Policy.
    • Strives to meet sales goals and objectives.
  2. Proactively initiates and establishes relations with prospective clients.
    • Collaborates with the Market Manager/Assistant Market Manager to formulate and execute a client growth and revenue plan that is consistent with Branch Goals.
    • Performs sales and relationship building calls and activities.
    • Initiates and develops relationships with prospective clients to expand client base.
    • Educates and refers clients to services and products available to them through the Bank.
  3. Proactively and consistently manages client contact to develop and build long-term relationships:
    • Manages and maintains contact with existing clients to assure that their needs are identified and met.
    • Continues to educate and refer clients to services and products available to them throughout the Bank.
    • Effectively and efficiently resolves client complaints and concerns.
    • Consistently utilizes sales and services skills to generate revenue and referrals.
  4. Represents and promotes the Bank at Bank sponsored events and in the community by:
    • Marketing Ixonia Bank at sponsored events
    • Seeking out and participating in volunteer opportunities or community events, activities/programs that support the communities that we serve and assisting the Market Manager/Assistant Market Manager in these efforts when needed.
    • Initiates and generates referrals through community, civic and volunteer efforts.
  5. Actively engages in providing “the Ixonia Bank experience” by seeking out opportunities to provide exceptional service to clients and other associates.
    • Demonstrates flexibility to help where needed.
    • Works to achieve proper balance between time spent in teller window and time at new accounts desk.
    • Seeks opportunities to provide sales and service.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (Competencies)

  • Must exhibit an understanding of and compliance with applicable federal and state banking laws and regulations, and/or have and obtain the ability to acquire.
  • Must possess knowledge of Ixonia Bank banking products and services and exhibit a demonstrated experience and ability to open and close most or all types of Ixonia Bank deposit accounts.
  • Possesses demonstrated knowledge and completion of Ixonia Bank new accounts training and procedures.
  • Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills - Basic computer skills required.
  • Customer Service Skills- Manage difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs.
  • Interpersonal Skills - Maintains confidentiality.
  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.

  • Flexibility - Willingness to report to other branches as needed. Scheduling based on branch needs.

Education, Experience or Equivalent:   High school or GED required; 1-2 years of retail banking and/or customer service experience required.  Knowledge of retail banking operations, and banking experience required.

Specific Demonstrate Skills:   

  • Ability to operate computer and various Ixonia Bank software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various levels of staff, client and outside contacts.
  • Proven ability for responsible decision – making skills: Regular judgments are made under defined procedures and methods where supervision by the Market Manager, Assistant Market Manager or 1st VP of Retail Banking is available. Guidance and supervision by the Market Manager, Assistant Market Manager or 1st VP of Retail Banking is generally needed for decisions that affect a significant number of people or deal with a high dollar amount.
