Research Quality and Operations Manager

The Research Quality and Operations Manager is responsible for defining requirements, process and engaging in the management and operations of the Rogers Research Center. The Quality and Operations Manager will work directly with the VP of Research and other functional leaders including Finance, Legal, Regulatory and Clinical to ensure that research activities, sponsored programs, and human subject research projects comply with all applicable regulations, and that procedures and documentation are complete and maintained appropriately, processes are followed, and programs operate effectively.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The Research Quality and Operations Manager provides support to Research Center staff and Rogers Leadership in the oversight of operations including policy and process development, internal and external IRB services, document management, contract management, education and credentialing of investigators, study staff and research center employees, dashboard and metrics generation, department and study budget development, study quality monitoring and effort and financial reporting.

  • Develops and manages research contract management strategies, basic redline criteria and facilitates legal review and site negotiation.
  • Oversees access of training modules and supports and tracks completion of investigator and study staff training
  • Develops study monitoring plans and conducts (or ensures the conduct of) appropriate internal audits and study quality checks.
  • Maintains all Research Center policies and procedures, ensures appropriate document review and approval and continuously improves processes related to research procedures.
  • Maintains and assists in the development and formatting of all Research Center print and online materials.
  • Develops and maintains dashboards and key metrics related to research center performance.
  • Oversees research registration process for all new research projects and communicates with investigators throughout study design phase.
  • Maintains availability of supplies for research standard work activities.
  • Develops and reviews research study budgets to ensure compliance with financial standards.
  • Assists Finance and Regulatory leadership to ensure tax and federal payer reporting are consistent with business operations.
  • Oversees the Research Grants and Sponsored Programs staff, ensuring that funding applications, budgets, and support letters comply with company policy and meet funder requirements and regulations.
  • Manages investigator eligibility and invitation letters and ensures timely review and approval upon anniversary dates.
  • Oversees student investigator registration with research center, research mentor assignment and study progress.
  • Manages publication lists, libraries and outside contracts for full text library and database support.

Performance and Quality Improvement:

  • Participate in Rogers Operating System (ROS) where applicable.
  • Maintain familiarity with the ROS process and apply the model and tools to activities and projects.
  • Participate in ROS teams as requested.
  • Educate and involve staff in ROS as appropriate.

Education/Training Requirements:

Master of Science degree, or higher, in scientific, clinical or related field, strongly preferred.
Minimum Bachelor of Science or Arts degree with 8 years experience in research administration, laboratory or project management or research operations, required.
Minimum 6 years prior experience developing and applying policies and procedures in clinical research environment.
Prior experience leading technical or scientific teams, with supervisory duties.
Basic understanding of federal regulations applying to the conduct of human subjects research.
Exceptional written communication skills, phrasing, editing and organizing technical documents.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office.
Prior experience in developing training materials and instructing professionals and researchers in policy and procedure.
Computer proficiency required.
